Edition Wars
Honestly I don’t care which edition a game is on. I’m always willing to give a new edition or game a try. I’ve played pretty much every edition of D&D that’s been release with the exception of the white box.
4th edition Dungeons and Dragons intrigues me and I’ve bought numerous books for it but have no player buy in at our game table. For the time being everyone wants to stick with 3.5 edition of Dungeons and Dragons. Perhaps someday I might sway them to at least give Pathfinder a go but for now this is it.
We  have a great time playing and hanging out at our bi-weekly game and that’s really all that matters.

Dungeons and Dragons Essentials

I picked this up at Borders tonight using their 40% off paperbacks coupon and they only came out to 12 dollars each. Not a bad price point for a game.

The new form factor is welcome being a digest size paperback, and splitting the rules into 2 books. The core classes (fighter, rogue, wizard and cleric) and races (human, elf, dwarf and halfling). The serving books is the rules to play with. A monster and dungeon master book are on the way.

Wizards has started to realize that their aging fan bar want as keen on the 4th edition rules as they were and have made some accommodations to fix done of the sacred views they killed in the revision.

I haven’t had time to do a thorough reading yet but look forward to seeing what this latest brings to the table.

I want to point everyone to this great free game by Michael Wolf of Stargazer’s World. It’s lite easy to understand and best of all free. There are already quite a few free supplements out for it also.
If you’re looking to get into a Fantasy RPG, enjoy rules lite systems, or even old school styling check it out. Click the picture to go grab it.

Anyone else getting excited to see Tron Legacy? I know I am, I remember seeing the first one at the movies and thinking how advanced it was. Of course watching it now is so different. I’m glad they didn’t just update the original movie, but show how the world evolved once MCP was defeated.
You know what I’d like to see? A Role Playing Game based on the Internet World. That would be great. I’m sure you could do it easy enough with some existing system like Savage Worlds or something.

tumblrbot asked: WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT ON YOUR PLANET?

I’ve been to a lot of places during my stint int he USAF. But I think if there was a place that I’d love to go to is Asia. China, Japan, etc… All would be great places to visit.

What’s on the reading shelf

Currently I’m enjoying Shadow, sword and spell from Rogue games. A small sword and sorcery RPG that emulates the works of Robert E Howard and HP Lovecraft. Its a nice cross between old school games and indy games.

Also on the shelf is 3rd edition Warhammer Fantasy Role Play. A game I was a little worried about at first but now think came off well executed. More on that later.

I’m debating on picking up the new D&D boxed set to try out gaming with Bubba. She shows some real interest in trying out some role playing.

Anyway that’s all for now. I’ll pick this up later. I invite some polite discussion over any topics.

A geek dad’s blog

Hi. This is my first post to this blog. My name is Wayne or Lumrunner, I’m 44 years old and am the father of 3 kids and married to an understanding wife. She doesn’t get it, but lets me have my fun.

My 8 year old I’ll call Bubba. She’s my geek in training, a great reader, loves science fiction and fantasy and wants to try role playing games when she can.

I also have two 4 year old twins Thing one and Thing two. They’re my girly girls. No interest in what I’m into but love all girly things except baby dolls.

I’ll be making posts from my Motorola Droid. I have our on me at all times so when I post it will be during down times with the kids. Please excuse my typos the Droid sometimes auto corrects what I’m typing our swyping as the case may be.

I’ve been into all things geeky for as long I can remember. More than likely it started when I saw Star Wars for the first time in 77. If it wasn’t got my mother forcing me to see that movie I might have been more into motorcycles and stunt men like Evel Kenevel.

I’m into role playing games and gaming of all types board, pc, etc. I even do some freelance writing now and again for the fun of it.

So that’s me. Tell me about you if you’re reading this, I want to know.

Thanks,

Wayne
